Was just sitting in on a history class and the teacher kept saying we're a democracy. I politely corrected her on the fact that we are not a democracy, but we are in fact a Constitutional Republic. We may have certain similarities with a democracy, but the two are different. Her response was that was what she was told to teach (IE that's what is in the book). BUT the win comes from the fact that she was willing to accept the correction, research on it, and report (for the lack of a better term that eludes me at this moment) it up higher to try to get it corrected.

That my friends is how you change things in public schools ... actually doing something about it and not just complaining about it. This is also why I enjoy (most of) the people I work with. They're not all "I'm right, you're wrong". They are willing to accept correction when/if needed.
