Serious question on this as it was actually coffee talk with my boss this morning.

Say Texit happens. Would the remaining 49 states remain an ally. Would Mexico be an ally or enemy?

Many states would come with us. Removing Texas' influence in the executive and legislative branches at the federal level would significantly tip the balance of power to the communists. Many other states would not want to stay for that.

Yup and right back full circle to the civil war. Feds/commies will be so jacked up financially they will call for war.

No matter how noble that thought is, you simply can't lead commies to democracy and make them accept it. Never gonna happen.
Leftism is running rampant (more rampant than Covid) and is incurable. Sorry for the bad news.
    I fear you are right.

As great as we are as a state, it would be a yuge ask to go it alone. I think the odds would be better to include some of our like minded neighboring states to form a break away union. Either that or convince California, oregon, Washington to break away on the west coast and on the east call it Illinois over to the Atlantic then up to Maine. Hawaii could be part of the west coast group. Alaska never was connected to mainland US so they wouldn’t be too much affected.

Secession should not be done in a way that gives the U.S. an excuse for aggressions, especially including creating a larger union. Texas biggest mistake the last time it seceeded was in joining the Confederacy.
It seems that everybody is just waiting. Somebody needs to start the ball rolling.
Create a petition and send it Paxton to do something with?
There already is a petition campaign to put the #TEXIT question on the ballot!
