So, to you that think Texas should secede, or Texas should "take back it's independence", then what would you say to Mexico claiming Texas and wanting to take it back? After-all, in a sense, it was the northern Mexicans that allowed a few Angelo's take a shot at trying to help them break away. Why not go that 1 step further? It was a joint effort after-all.

Just a thought provoking idea. :p

A bit of trivia on this subject, did you know that contrary to popular belief, the term "wetback" actually originated as a term used to describe Angelo's that crossed the river over into Mexico?

The very basis problem with that is that Texas was never part of Mexico.

Mexicans are from Mexico, not Texas, that is why they are called Mexicans, not Texans.

Spain claimed a large territory that they never actually occupied, just as the French and Russians did.

The people who settled in Texas, are the Texans, and drove out the INVADING MEXICAN ARMY!

The very simple and obvious fact that many "Americans" deride Texas, Dixie, the West, the Pacific Northwest, and the Mid West, when Folks from those areas speak the heart felt truth about anything, proves that America is not a Nation, but rather a collection of Separate and Independent Nations.

There is no real tie that binds Texas to New England.

The "Union" is noting but a political alliance. When a political alliance is no longer beneficial, it is dissolved; that is the nature of life!

All the folks that love Servitude, and hate Liberty, belong in New England any way.

They would be happier there, and we would be happier here, once they were gone!

Davey Crockett said "Y'all can go to Hell, I'm a going ta Texas"!

I say they can go to Hell or New England, as if there was much difference between the two.

And they stood along side who? The same "who" that fought "enemies" on both north and south borders.

Just say'n it's not the "white boys" that started it. But they joined the fight and together eventually won it. But it's the "white boys" that claim it.

Oh, for the record, I am a "white boy", "gringo", "Anglo".

Our Patriotic Ancestors won our First American Revolution for Liberty, and the thirteen English Colonies became thirteen Free and Independent Nations (States).

When it was proposed that the original treaty between the thirteen American Nations, the Articles of Confederation, be replaced with a new treaty forming a centralized government to better serve the American Nations, Patrick Henry said “I smell a rat”!

History has proven that Patrick Henry was right!

Patrick Henry said that the English King was not a good Father to his Children, but rather “a tyrant who forfeits the allegiance of his subjects”.

If our good Patriot, Patrick Henry, were with us today, I believe he would feel compelled to say the same of the Federal Government.

No one lived in Texas except for a small band of cannibals on the Texas shore near Galveston Island, the Karankawa. The Karankawa had landed there from a Caribbean island, and the Indians regarded the Karankawa as utter savages. They had a custom of staking their living meal to the ground, cutting off the meat bit by bit, and eating it as the captive meal watched.

In order to get some tax paying subjects on the vast area of Texas, the Spanish King gave Land Grants (free land) to Irish (San Patricio County, named after Saint Patrick) and to Germans.

Later more Irish, and some Scots settled in Texas from Tennessee. Then various settlers arrived from various American States.

A few Spaniards came up from the Spanish Colony of Mexico, but very few. The vast majority of Spaniards never intended to settle in America at all, they went to the Colony seeking their fortune, and returned to Spain. The descendents of the Spanish who did remain in America are pretty much confined to Mexico City. The Spaniards preferred to live among other Europeans, not among Mexicans, who they termed Afromexicanos because the common Mexican peasant is a mixture of black African slave and Mexican Indian.

    The Mexicans were in Mexico!

As much as I'd like to see Texas be it's own country, and to tell the US Government to keep it's hand out of our cookie-jar... I don't think we are going to win the battle on the internet, so let's try to avoid the whole, "Gather your pitchforks and let's go kill us some redcoats / yankees" rhetoric.
