Last year at Shot Show, Sharps Rifle comoany provided a Sharps Rifle Company Balanced Bolt Carrier and Relia bolt with rounded/tapered lugs to use in one of my projects. Its manufactured from S7 steel and coated with NP3/NP3 PLUS.

So, the question is do the radius cuts on the bolt make it more reliable?

To answer your ! It most LIKELY does, given that the radius does not leave the walls to thin. I am not concerned with that based upon their engineering approach, I am sure that was taken into consideration before then integrated the radius cuts.

In addition the 'shear' loads are not a major factor in bolt design.

The radius cuts generally speaking both lighten and strengthen the component.

IMO I think their product is one of the best as viewed from and engineering paradigm. I have never owned one, but am impressed with the product. Keep us in the loop as to how it performs...

I have 2 of the Sharps XPB Xtreme Performance BCG's in use (updated version).

No problems at all so far (evem with a bit of hard-use), they're currently my favorite AR15-sized BCGs...

Jim Sullivan (The man that created the AR15) is still working on them. He is adamant that lighting the bolt carrier is the worst thing you can do.

starts talking about that around 6:25. It seems like going to a higher grade steel (S7) on your bolt is just going to wear your barrel extension out faster. In practice you should be replacing your barrel, barrel extension, and bolt at the same time and buying them matched from the same manufacture. If not that you need to be checking headspace. Its almost impossible to screw up and AR15 but it is.
