Anyone here live in / have property in Cass County, TX? The wife and I are noodling around getting some raw/undeveloped land (50 acres or so hopefully) to have some fun with, she's got family in the area. So - the question for y'all that may know - any issues / restrictions with shooting / setting up your own gun range on your property? I'm only looking at non-city land - ie - unincorporated land. Will be riding UTVs all over the creation too, hopefully! Thank you in advance!

Depends where you set up. How far are you from a building or a road. Does the land have any covenants against shooting?

Right now we are at the exploratory stage - heading there this weekend to look at some land (50+ acres), not sure of any covenants - I will *definitely* not be purchasing land with any restrictive covenants! Our plan is to start out with our big ole 5th wheel and make it our weekend playground and then take it from there. No matter what land we purchase I would never put a range nearby any buildings / roads - that's a "safety last" thing in my book!

BTW: do you have land in Cass County? If so - have any links to any ordinances related to shooting on your own property? I could not find anything specific for Cass County.

I live in Cass County but don't own land as of yet. I do not think there are any restrictions though. My boy shoots on his wife's land all the time.

Very cool - thank you! There's a BUNCH of property in the 50+ acres category in Cass County so that seems to be where we are really gravitating. Never thought I'd be looking at buying a tractor before LOL....

Yeah 50+ is a bit more than I am looking for so that cuts down on what it available.

I started out thinking.....oh, 10 acres minimum....but then it went up from there....I've got "big" plans for the land....all I can say for now...would rather buy it once...and it will eventually be a retirement place for us / my wife.

Same here , end of civilization type stuff/ retirement which ever comes first. But it is just me and the wife so more the 5 to 15 would be a bit overkill. The older I get the less I like hard physical labor.
