I have a Remington 1100 12 Ga. with a 28" barrel. I'm wanting to purchase a spare barrel , cut it down to 18" and make it into a home defense shotgun. Because it is gas operated, that making the barrel shorter than factory length might affect the action. I have heard I would need to run heavier loads thru it. Any advice for me here?? Amarillo, TX.

IIRC, Remington sells a barrel that has dual gas ports to make sure that isn't a problem. I know that the barrel on the 1100 Tac 4 is set up that way.

That's how the newer 1188s (I think) are set up. Made to run light or heavy loads without making any changes.
