Gal at the Corps of Engineer office told me I could use shotgun for feral hogs. I thought awesome.
She then told me I had to use #2 shot. I thought no way am I going to shoot at a hog with #2 shot.
The policy reads "Anyone hunting with a shotgun may not use, or possess any shot larger than #2".
    So, I have two questions:
    1) Could they have meant #2 buck?
    2) Would #2 shot, the kind you use for geese, be effective/ethical on hogs?

I guess I have never considered any size shot for hogs. 00 buck is what comes to mind.

I've always understood it to be #2 "shot" and negative on the "buck".

If you are looking for hogs I might know a good area to find them. I'll stop and look around for tracks next time I go through the area if I have some time.

Surely they mean #2 buck shot.

Maybe a close ear/head shot with #2 bird shot. I'm going to call and see. I hope they mean buck, or I'm getting a crossbow.

The last hog I shot with buckshot, was at a range of about 20 feet, broadside. Using 2 3/4" 000 buck. Not a single pellet penetrated the shield or deep enough to damage any vital areas. I ended up killing it with a .44 Mag handgun I was carrying. After that I have stuck to slugs or rifles for hogs. No way would I try to shoot a hog with #2 shot.
