As an emergency in case of optics failure. I mounted iron sights as pictured. Tried the left side thinking the ejection port pointed down would be best but aiming is very awkward. Not bad at all on the right side, just a little concerned with the ejection port pointed straight up. Have not been to the range yet. Anybody have any experience or feedback on this? FYI, I'm aware of the "gangsta" angle with shooting sideways.

I've seen that done with the backup sights mounted at a 45 degree angle. Not sure how your accuracy will do with the rifle at a full 90 degree tilt.

    For example...

If you're in a position that you need to use those sights, you won't much care about the brass falling on you. 45-deg sights are a lot more comfortable to use, though - 90-deg is pretty awkward.

I have a set of 45 degree sights on my rifle, they work fine for what they are, easy to transition to. Not sure how side mounted would be. Looks like it would be awkward.
