    A BILL TO BE ENTITLED​
    AN ACT​
    relating to the interstate purchase of certain firearms.
    BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS:
    SECTION 1. Section 46.07, Penal Code, is amended to read as follows:
    Sec. 46.07. INTERSTATE PURCHASE. A resident of this state may, if not otherwise precluded by law, purchase firearms, ammunition, reloading components, or firearm accessories in another state [contiguous states]. This authorization is enacted in conformance with 18 U.S.C. Section 922(b)(3)(A)[, Public Law 90-618, 90th Congress].
    SECTION 2. This Act takes effect immediately if it receives a vote of two-thirds of all the members elected to each house, as provided by Section 39, Article III, Texas Constitution. If this Act does not receive the vote necessary for immediate effect, this Act takes effect September 1, 2009.






    So Texas Residents could not buy firearms, ammo, and accessories before this bill?

    So Texas Residents could not buy firearms, ammo, and accessories before this bill?

    We could, but only in Texas or in contiguous states. This means we can do it in any other state where it's legal to buy as a non-resident.

    We really need a "strike" feature in the text. It'd make that copy and paste above make more sense... The bracketed text is actually stricken.

    For those not familiar with the nomenclature used by the Texas Legislature, when text is underlined, that text is being added. When text is placed in brackets and has a strike through, that text is being removed. All text not modified is /not/ being changed.

    So in the bill the term [contiguous states] is being removed. The term another state is added in its place. This effectively removes the restrictions of being able to buy /only/ in another state that abuts to Texas. Now, if not other wised prevented from doing so, I could purchase a weapon from Alaska. I'm just not driving up there to get it. ;)
