Have been wondering this problem for 3 years now. I own a 1963 yugo sks. I use detachable mags and have the hardest time trying to load the magazine in the rifle. The bolt doesnt lock, so I hold that back, then I hold the mag. catch open and then once its almost in there I push it all the way so it seats.

Is there a easier way to load a mag?? My uncles Russian sks's bolt locks back and he has no problem using mags.

That is very common on the SKS when you use a detach mag > poor fit, no lock open, unreliable. I went back to the stock 10 rd attached mag and never looked back. .02

I took a length of 1/4" hard copper tubing and bent it at both ends.
One bend is at 90 degrees and goes around the rear of the receiver.
Other end is in a curve to hold the bolt handle back.

    Works for me...

Use the Tapco 20 rounders. You may have to sand down the magazine are if you have a wood stock, other wise they are the only one's I've found that work all the time. Also try sksboards.com, lots of answers and nice folks.

Know what you mean, dang shame a tough old rifle has never had a decent, easy to poke in or drop out hi cap magazine. I wasted a pile of $$$ trying one piece of magazine junk after another to always fail. Ended up with one of the duckbill uglies that feeds well. Mine will lock back at least.

Didn't know back then that there were the D Models that used AK mags.
