Dunno what to buy. If i got some extra cash after i pay shit, i want a real rifle (keeping the mosin)

A weatherby vanguard in 308?. Or a mini-14? A bolt gun in 308 sounds fun and i can shoot long distances. But a semi mini14 sounds even more fun. But im wondering if the 223 is enough for deer/hog. Or should i try for a mini 30 in 7.62x39?

Budget is $500. Ammo cost is considered too. Gimme opinions/ideas

    is .223 enough for deer/hog

Yes and no, it depends who you ask. I have relatively small deer where I live so I would feel fine hunting with a .223, I wouldn't try it for even small deer past a couple hundred yards, it would still bring one down but the odds of wounding one go up quick as the bullet loses momentum. Just my take on it.

I don't get into the ak stuff but I think they can be had for under $500.

yea, i do kind of want an AK, but i koind of dont. but im not sure if i can find a MINI-30 for under $500 (which is what i would prefer). With that said, i really really really want a VZ-58. century makes one that can be had for $500. but its a century gun. and i dont know how reliable that makes it.

Maybe a Yugo SKS? I'm pretty sure they're still available for under $500.

The gun at the top of my wish list right now comes in at over $2500, so I'm just putting the refund in the savings jar.

mini-14? save a little extra and get an AR. just a little more money for a lot more accuracy.

.223 enough for deer and hogs? IMO, deer yes, mostly. pigs? not quite. if you're serious about hogs, get something bigger.
