Last week I received a S&W model 64 from another agency.

The gun was stolen back in 2007 in a burglary of a habitation

About 18 months ago I was notified that the gun had been recovered by the agency but the way it was recovered was with a drive by shooting and it was being held as evidence.

I followed up and made sure the gun had our hold placed to prevent it from being destroyed following their disposition. I had called a couple of times to keep tabs on the status of their case and to make certain my hold was still in place.

About three (3) weeks ago I followed up once more and was told the person had pleaded guilty to aggravated assault and they were done with the gun.

I got it in our possession last week and contacted the victim and told him he could pick up his gun whenever he could come to the station.

It is such a great feeling to get property back to the rightful owner. The gun was in good condition for which I was grateful.

It doesn't happen nearly as often as I would like, but occasionally we get to score one for the good guys.

Good folks make all the damned angst worthwhile.

Nice to be reminded of that in this day and time. Thanks!

Nice going! Contrast that outcome to the way illegally confiscated firearms were released to their owners after Katrina. The owners got back rusted blocks of junk!
