The officer, a 20-year Stafford police veteran, was taken by Life Flight helicopter to Memorial Hermann Hospital — The Texas Medical Center. His injuries did not appear to be life-threatening, officials said.

Hope the officer has a speedy recovery. But who called for Lifeflight for a non-life threatening injury? Bet others paniced because there was blood!!!

    Training/qualification at 9:45 p.m?

As for Lifeflight, it may not have been determined at the time that his injuries were non-life threatening. It was probably just a precaution...

By the way, the article never mentioned if the officer was shot or accidentally shot himself...

Either way, I wish him a fast recovery!

I bet the determination that his injury was not life-threatening was made AFTER he arrived and was evaluated at the hospital.

20 year paramedic here. Not all helo transports are emergencies. Sometimes it is just logistics billed at a lower ground transport rate if the helo is already onscene.

Sometimes its just professional courtesy out of respect for our public safety colleagues. I suspect that since most helos have the capability to infuse blood, and ground ambulances usually don't, it was out of an abundance of caution with an eye towards a potential decline in patient condition. Never assume things won't get worse.

An emergency helicopter rushed a Stafford officer to the hospital after he shot himself in the leg last night.

    OOOOPS!

This is why it is crucial to remain 100% safety minded at all times when handling a firearm. This trained and experienced officer never dreamed he would shoot himself... and then his guard was let down.
