Statue about what specifically? Reporting a firearm stolen? Being in possession of stolen firearm? Or are we talking about transitioning to a curio or relic so the ATF doesn't classify it as a firearm?

    Asking for a friend.

In less the last legal owner gets it back, it will always be stolen property. There is no limitation on that. The crime may have one. If the gun crosses a state line it probably becomes a federal crime.

Nope. Maybe that new guy from there, @Sasquatch might know.

Sorry, not sure if there is a statute regarding if a gun reported stolen ever drops off. They were trying to pass a law mandating you had 24 hours to report a stolen gun upon its discovery, not sure if that passed or not. I am not originally from Washington, I was a few miles south in Oregon. I tried keeping up on a lot of Washington's laws because they were a few degrees off from Oregon in some important areas and it would be easy to run afoul up there doing something legal in Oregon and vice-versa.

Would a stolen firearm ever be "not stolen"?
    I mean, until it's found?

I think it entirely depends upon state laws, as well as record keeping. Lets say a dude had a nice Colt Python stolen in 1988 in a jurisdiction that was just phasing in computer records, or hadn't begun to yet. Maybe that report didn't make it into a database, and the gun was not recorded as stolen with the ATF?

I had a complete lower (not a full rifle) stolen out of my trunk a couple years ago, I never thought I'd actually get it back, but it was recovered about 6 or 7 months later and returned to me. The bastards who stole it were never caught, nor has any of my other property been recovered.

When I was a teen, we had an antique pair of pistols stolen in Kansas. Years later one was recovered. The ATF came with all sorts of questions. We had received insurance money and couldn't get the pistol back. It belonged to the insurance company at that point.

Who knows he possessed it? Dead men tell no tales I hear.

But that may not be the ideal way to handle the situation.
