I don't reload so always trying to save a few bucks when it comes to range time. I recently acquired a super nice S/A Micro Compact .45 1911. Wally World has some decent prices (and even better in stock) Tulio (probably mis-spelled) FMJ ammo but it has steel rather than brass casing. I ALWAYS dis-assemble and clean my pistols after range time. Any issues with shooting these??

I doubt Tula steel will hurt your 1911. Never tried it, since I reload .45.

Compact 1911s can be very picky on the ammo fed them. Check the manual to see if they have an ammunition recommendation.

Russian steel cased ammo tends to run dirtier than domestic brands, and may or may not cycle properly.

I've had good results with Russian steel cased .223 Rem in a Saiga. Not very accurate, but it goes bang.

My friend blew up his brand new USP Compact with some of that cheap Ruskie steel cased ammo. Either Brown or Silver Bear brand, don't remember which.

The ammo vendor ended up having to buy him a new one, just lucky it wasn't a hand or finger that went missing. They'd have a harder time buying a replacement for those.

Any brand of ammo can do that though, and you have to be mindful in case you get a squib ... the next round will not be pretty.

TulAmmo works fine for me. I seem to notice a bit more bang with and can shoot as accurate with it as any brass ammo. It doesn't seem to be all that dirty.

The US military produced .45acp steel cased rounds for the latter parts of WW2. I have a couple of the rounds that are head stamped 1943. The cases are gray colored and appear to be galvanized.

Although I prefer not to use steel case ammo in my 1911's, apparently, the US military felt that it was OK.

Thanks guys! Just going to buy one box to see how they cycle. So far I have only tried Remington and WWB in FMJ and Golden Sabers in hollow points. So far all worked perfect.
