Anyone have any experience with these? My uncle ,who's opinion I value in regards to firearms, mentioned it awhile back with high regards; a steyr being his only "plastic" pistol. Cabela's has 'em on sale right now for $200 dollars off (M40-a1) plus I get a %5 or %10 discount, so I'm thinking about making a purchase.

They are excellent guns. I don't have much experience with them at all, so take what I say with a grain of salt. ;) The nice thing is due to the design and grip shape the gun has a really low bore axis to help minimize muzzle flip. For some people, the "trapezoidal" sights can take getting used to. Personally, I don't find anything negative about the sights, they're just different. As far as I can remember, I don't think I've ever heard of any problems or component issues/failures in these guns at all.

There were some issues with earlier models, but I think the A1 has them sorted out. I have the 9mm in the A1 version and I have about 1k down the pipe without any FTE or FTF's. Once you get used to the 8 lb. trigger it shoots about the same as a Glock or XD. Check out steyr forums for more info: www.steyrclub.com

ok, well I've lost interest. Cdnn sells 'em regularly for 50 dollars less than Cabela's "Sale" at $339+tax. Still a good gun, but I'm not pressured into it. I will probably purchase one in the future, because it seems like a really nice gun, but I don't have to jump on it now, so I'll make a sub-compact purchase instead to compliment my g23. Yea, I was gonna own a g23 and m40-a1; what's the point, right?
