    As for what to bury, it seems to me one should bury a complete setup, not just a rifle or two. Rifle, mags, ammo, rucksack, canteens etc, one set of clothes, and most importantly socks and boots. Worst case scenario, you have to sneak past the checkpoints in the middle of the night to go get your stuff from your cache. No point being well-armed but barefoot.

    Of course, guys walking out of town carrying a shovel might just attract attention...

    Location-wise, if I were to bury some stuff, I'd want to find a spot in public lands too difficult for farming or housing.
