Local channels = antenna to pic up the local channels free over the air.

There's no "best" answer, all depends what you're watching. Star Trek fan? Gotta have Paramount. Star Wars? Disney.
Pay every month and never watch because they only have weird shit? Netflix.

Depends on your taste in programs, tried all you mention and have been using YouTubeTV over two ROKU devices and a Roku TV

That's been best so far my changing tastes in programming. Gives me a menu of what I currently like on a monthly basis.

I use a firestick for streaming.
Of course all the streaming options are extra.
No recording, but don't need to when streaming.

Can't help with local channels, but I still have cable also.

ETA: I think I misunderstood your question.

All for free. If you know others that have accounts to do so I know you can add whoever and they can use any device. If you lived closer I’d ask my wife and her friends to add you.

I dumped ATT Uverse went to youtubeTV, prime video, and discovery+
lots more choices, great dvr total cost is a 35% discount from the Uverse

only downside is more button pushing on the remote to get the show started

I use roku and walmarts Onn streaming adapters (different tv's) onn is easier for wife to use
also tried google chromecast but it was slow and no match for the onn brand of the same thing.

and the Onn was $18. amazing.

I recommend the one month free that most of the services offer, youtubeTV offered more than most, especially with all of the local channels on it

NETFIX - we have it free from Tmobile as part of the over 55 year old cell phone plan. Yet to watch anything on it.

The only streaming services we added after cutting the cord was Paramount and Discovery plus. We already had Netflix, Amazon Prime and Hulu, but I did upgrade Hulu to go ad free. We did sign up for Sling TV for this month so SWMBO could watch the soccer World Cup.

    That brings up another point.

Stick and ball sports aren't needed.

I have HBO max because I get it free through AT&T. It's alright. Amazon Prime Video is ok too, though I rarely use it.

Haven't had Netflix in years. From what I've heard, they've gone hard on the woke shit.

Give Pluto TV a look. It's free. I don't even think you need an account. Everything about it is like old fashion TV. I watch a lot of Gunsmoke and The Andy Griffith Show on it.

I have HBOmax with AT&T, and PrimeTV from Amazon Prime. The only other one I use is Tubi, which is ad supported by commercials...

Since the only internet I have is AT&T cellular data I often just watch on my phone, but I do sometimes cast from my phone to TV using android Smart View and a wireless display adapter. Works great! Both of my brothers and a friend use them in their RVs when traveling.

I really don't watch much TV, prefering to read, generally.

Our TV thinks it’s smart, but we do all the streaming through the XBox. Series X.

I’ve got HBO max that is free with ATT internet. I’ve never watched it aside from the day I set it up, but it’s there if I want it. As for streaming, I’ve got a Roku Stick. It’s got enough free channels with commercials that I could probably get by with just that if I absolutely had to. I had Hulu up until about a year ago. They did something woke (don’t remember what it was) so I dumped them. I have Netflix because it’s free. Their content has really gone down, and I only use them for older tv shows and movies. Also have Amazon Prime, which I probably watch the most and for news it’s OAN which is $5 a month. I’ve got an antenna for local TV but I never watch it. As far as subscriptions, I shopped around about a year ago and determined Sling was the way to go based on what I watch, but I never pulled the trigger because so far Prime, OAN, Roku free channels and Netflix satisfy my needs

Tubi is free streaming. Peacock I think is free.
    Good point.

IMO, if someone doesn't care about "premium" content, an antenna for local stations and just the free streaming services will prove to be enough.

Personally, there's occasional premium content that makes me feel like various streaming subscriptions are still worth it.

Now, where's the discussion about OTA DVRs? For some people that would be all they need or want.

It depends on what you enjoy.
I have some friends that are subscribed to nearly every streaming service.

I really only watch sports so that leaves me with one provider.
