Let me start by saying that I'm a noob and I may be doing this wrong. Any help will be appreciated though.

I've got an Omega on the way so I had to pick up a Handi Rifle in 300 BO since they were only $250.That's what I'm working with now. I want to have a cheap (if possible) plinking load and a decent hunting load. Quiet is the main objective.

I've been picking up powder and bullets when I can so I have a pretty good selection to start with I think.

I'll get right to the chono data that I got today. Hopefully I can lay it out right so y'all can make sense of it. CCI400 primers on all.

#'s 2,5 & 6 look to be the viable ones. Were you just shooting them through the chrono, or seeing what kind of groups you got out of them?

I set up a target at 25 yards just to make sure they weren't all over the place. I figured once I find a consistent load or 2 I can stretch it out.

I was really hoping the Trailboss would do better but H4198 seems to work really well.

I tried some of that last time. Velocities were all over the place, probably my fault.

Also I read that it is dangerous to load it under pressure so I wanted to try safer alternatives.

My bad. That's for supersonic. Derp.

I've been loading 300 subs using the 208 A-Max over 4.8gr Red Dot. Clean 100% burn, good accuracy and quiet. Here's the Quick Load info for the load.

Cartridge : .300 AAC Blackout (SAAMI)
    Bullet : .308, 208, Hornady A-MAX 30712
    Useable Case Capacity: 15.564 grain H2O = 1.011 cm³
    Cartridge O.A.L.: 2.180 inch = 55.37 mm
    Barrel Length : 16.3 inch = 412.8 mm
    Powder : Alliant RED DOT

    Fill........ Charge....... Vel........ Energy....... Prop.Burnt
    67% ......4.80gr..... 1041fps.... 501........... 100%

That load would be for your Handi, it's what I use in mine. It will not cycle a semi. If you also need it to run in a semi, I use Accurate 1689 for that. It's what just about all the guys I know who load subs with for the semi 300BLK.

I do have one lb of 1689. I'm saving it for the inevitable day that I get an AR.

Do you run that Red Dot load through a can? If so, is it quieter than other loads?

No problem using Red Dot in a semi if you want to use it as a straight pull bolt?

Orbitup not telling you anything you don't know but it looks like the 150gr may be the problem. Maybe the load is less compressed/case less full?

I'm not going to give up on that pill yet. It's cheap and the Traiboss I used was a lot quieter than any of the others. I'm thinking I should up the charge and seat the bullet a little deeper. Do you think that might help?

I wouldn't do both at the same time. But both would help increase velocity. Seating depth increases pressure quickly when case is near full and has less effect as empty space increases.

I did alittle reloading 300blk when i had my 300blk ar. I didnt get to do much round development. But ill put in the little i learned. Some 223/556 brass is thick and will jam if converted to 300blk and it is a pain to unjam thick walled brass.
