    Re: Suppressors

I have always wanted to have one of these on a .22. Anyone have any experience with one on a .22 cal pistol?

A .22 silencer is the absolute best kind to have. I have an AAC M4-2000 silencer for 5.56mm and an AAC Element silencer in .22 caliber. The .22 silencer on my bolt action 16" rifle sounds like a BB gun going off. I sit on my front porch and lob 40 grain bullets at crows about 300 yards off. Haven't managed to hit one yet but its fun to try.

So, is there a distinction in TX between a "silencer" and a suppressor?

"Silencer" is what the law and people who don't know better call them. It's more technically correct to call them suppressors because they don't (or at least rarely do) completely silence a firearm. They simply suppress the sound and muzzle flash. I've seen foreigners refer to them as "moderators" for the same reason. They moderate the sound and flash.

Not all firearm/suppressor combinations are hearing-safe. Supersonic ammo doesn't get nearly as quiet because at the very least you have the supersonic crack of the bullet that cannot be eliminated by a muzzle attachment.
