    Your only option is a Marlin Model 81-DL, and use CCI Stingers in it. The ONLY option.

    OP, check out the Rimfire section of the forum. Some of your questions will be answered there. Also, Tejano Scott moderates a Rimfire Challenge on this site. He can also give you some good suggestions...

    In all seriousness though, it depends on how much you want to spend. With a 10/22, Green Mountain bull barrel, minor trigger work, and Winchester "Western" bulk ammo I put up some .75" groups at 50yards. First time out with the gun in less than favorable wind conditions. With more trigger time and a few tweaks it will run .5" or less consistently, in my humble opinion.

    However, there are quality (read out-of-box accurate!) bolt action rifles on the market that are affordable. But not as modular as 10/22.

    BTW, if anyone ever finds a Marlin 81-DL for sale, I would offer a finders fee. I would like to buy another one for my boy.
