I'm no sniper or anything of the such but imo no it wouldn't. Once you are familiar with your system placement of the bolt and manipulation is second nature. For years the military snipers used rem 700 actions with factory bolt handles which are on the smaller side of average imo.

I've shot a few matches in the dark and both of my actions are small bolt handle (see pic) compared to the common badger ord style knobs. I had zero issues whatsoever and at the last one it was even misting/raining/foggy.

The longer handles allow more torque for heavy/ stuck bolts and rounds that are tight in the chamber.

    The extra grip helps too.

The big drawback is they don't like to go in the case very well.

The only time I can really think of that I needed more leverage was with a Mosin. I think I just beat the bolt handle open with whatever solid thing was near by.

I had a few like that in Alaska because they were easier to manipulate with gloves but overall it's not really necessary

I put it down to personal preference.

Some wise soul once said "Respect the man who owns just one rifle, for he probably know how to use it."
My last 6 outings I've probably taken 12 different rifles. Fun, though not a path to proficiency.

    Knob size is probably inconsequential.
Practice with the knob you have! A lot. It'll serve you well.
    "final answer"

Great question BTW...asking a question so basic that it never gets asked!

Replies:32 Views:1,733 so far over what someone's personal choice for a bolt knob is. I find it hard to believe there are not more post about some of the personal crap guns people choose.

    I resemble that comment.

I can always sneak another gun by my wife without being detected.
    That is easy.

Recently I snuck another safe into my upstairs man cave.
That was a titch more difficult!!!
You should see the collection I have........................ In my head. It's that damn "never enough money" that gets in my way.

Everyone has a preference and there are plenty of products to meet those preferences. No judgment here.

That said, why are so many bolt guns getting giant "tactical" bolt knobs? I've always preferred that the bolt knob be able to roll/slide in my hand when running the bolt and a standard or maybe large marble sized bolt knob seems to be perfect for this. Aside from being in an area where the action might freeze up, what's the reasoning behind having a large (sometimes huge) cylindrical shaped, coarsly textured bolt handle?

Seems like it would be counterproductive to smoothly running the bolt.

Maybe along the same lines as "tactical underwear?"

I would say it is mostly for looks for me. I can see what both sides, could get in the way a lot if you were hunting but also could help if you had gloves on.
