I'm thinking of taking out one of my newly inherited rifles today, one that my Dad used for hunting. Looks my options are:

    Winchester 308
    Remington 222

New to shooting bolt action rifles. I think my goal for today is just to put a few rounds through it and get a sense of where I'm at. Any recommendations?

    Enjoy!

I’d start at 50 yd and see where they land. That will allow you to get the scope close to zero. You want it about an inch high at 50. That should translate to around bullseye at 100.

Unless you have a plethora of 222 ammo shoot the 308. 222 ammo is very scarce so don't mistake "223" for 222 it aint the same.
