The actual English translation is:
The little g stands for godina which is Russian for year

For future reference: http://7.62x54r.net/MosinID/MosinMarks01.htm. Note that the notes under each pic evidently are not exact translations of the barrel markings but are telling you the manufacturing plant and the model(s) attributed to rifles with the related pictured markings.
