Base pay for a newly minted 2LT with under 2 years service is higher than a 3 star General with 18 years service. As per the military pay chart for 2022.

There’s a reason why neither O-9 nor O-10 have pay rates established before 20 years of service. IIRC, it has to do with SES Level II parity, direct commission regulations, and retirement rules, but it’s a really obscure reference.

Essentially ensures no direct commission O-6 can be promoted past 2-star. Yes, DC O-6s (very rarely) occur. I know a direct commission O-5 neurosurgeon.

Nov. 15th 1928, Billie Dale Fries, leagally changed his name to William Dale Fries Jr, professionally known as C.W. McCall, was born in Audubon, Iowa

FUN FACT: In 1973, while working for Bozell & Jacobs, Fries created a television advertising campaign for Old Home Bread. The bread was trucked across the Midwest from the Metz Baking Company's plant in Sioux City, Iowa. As the big semi-trailer trucks carrying the Old Home Bread logo were a familiar sight on the highway, this suggested a trucking theme. The advertisements featured deliveries of the bread to the Old Home café, whose name expanded to become the "Old Home Filler-Up an' Keep on a-Truckin' Café". Its waitress was named Mavis after a real waitress at the White Spot café in Audubon where Fries grew up. Her role was to flirt with the truck driver who was named C. W. McCall. The name McCall was inspired by McCall's magazine, which Fries had on his desk at the time. A James Garner movie, Cash McCall, was also an influence. To complete the name, Fries added initials, shown embroidered on the trucker's shirt, and chose "C. W." for country and western.

In January 1961 Major Henry J. Deutschendorf, Jr., flew a 43rd Bombardment Wing B-58 Hustler from Carswell Air Force Base, Texas, to six international speed and payload records in a single flight. Between Edwards Air Force Base, California, and Yuma, Arizona, the B-58 achieved 1,200.194 miles per hour for 1,000 kilometers (621 miles) with no payload, with a 2,000-kilogram payload, and with a 4,000-kilogram payload.

Maj. Deutschendorf's son Henry John III inherited his father's love of aviation but never joined the military, instead becoming a private pilot when he wasn't singing, touring, and releasing hit albums with songs like "Rocky Mountain High" and Country Roads, Take Me Home". Of course, young Henry John Deutschendorf realized his name was a bit of a mouthful, so he changed it to "John Denver" to make it easier to remember. John Denver's love of flying lasted until the day he died at the controls of his homebuilt Rutan Long EZ private aircraft.

You dam old boomers probably know this but I'm here to edjicate the kids. Between Jan-Feb 1969 (Proud Mary) & Aug 1970 (Lookin' Out My Back Door), CCR had 5 songs go to #2 on the Top 40. Never had a #1.
