Mel's is pretty good but over-run with millennials these days. Wait times are crazy on weekends.
Fish Pond is just ok, nothing fantastic. If you're in the area stop by but not worth a special trip. Reminds me of Vernon's in Conroe.

Hadn't been to Mel's in a few years. Shame that vermin have taken over.......

I would add The Jay Cafe in Needville to that list. Their pies are sinful!!

You ain't lying about that! Jay Cafe is pretty darn good. The chocolate pie alone is worth the drive.

Sissy's?

It can depend on what she's cooking. Obviously better at some things than others. The burger is always good, tho. I'm not really a fan of her biscuits.

Are there really any good places to eat in Rockdale? The only one I really like is that Mexican place that has a giant shrimp on the backside from a previous restaurant. Lee's Landing is decent as well, but I'd rather have Springhill when I'm in the mood for that kind of food.

Corona's is good. Great green sauce! Lee's makes a good burger. New Oriental Kitchen is good... I like her Hot & Sour Soup. I had some really good brisket at Sho 'Nuff.

Corona's is good. Great green sauce! Lee's makes a good burger. New Oriental Kitchen is good... I like her Hot & Sour Soup. I had some really good brisket at Sho 'Nuff.

Yeah, that green sauce is amazing. Seriously, some of the best I've ever had.

I've never been to Sho 'Nuff. Is that the soul food place?

It is. Other side of the road, across the tracks from Corona's.
Last time we were there, they were open 11-3, Wed, Thurs, Fri. Friday is fish & BBQ day.
They're actually a non-profit restaurant/training center and their profits go towards rebuilding run down neighborhoods.

That would explain why I've never been. Not usually in town during the week
