Up until the time I retired, in the Great State of Texas, I would have said an American. After settling here I discovered that Texans are unique. They still hold true to values and principles. I am one that says "I was not born here but I got here as fast as I could". I do not care much for the direction our country is and has been going for some years now. We used to be a country of Americans with wonderful influence from the influx of legal immigrants. We are becomming a country of immigrants, both legal and illegal, who want to change this wonderful country to be more like the countries they left. I do not understand that. Too much greed in both the political and business arenas. Too many power grabbers for self satisfaction. I could go on and on but I think you get the idea. God Bless America and Our Brave Troops.

Well Said! I voted American 1st but in my heart I wll always be a proud Texan. Born in San Antonio, raised in Kerrville and Dallas, served Texas and America in the U.S. Army. My only regret is the direction America is heading. If it continues down the path of socialism I would defend Texas 1st!

I have great memories of Kerrville but I was very young when we lived there. My parents and their friends used to camp out and shoot turtles, water mocasins, and beer cans in the Guadalupe river. Deer, turkey, rattlesnakes, and javelina everywhere. I heard reverie in the morning and taps at night from the military college (Tivey College or something like that?) every day from our house. I would love to retire there but I guess that ain't gonna happen.:(

    I am an American first.
I was not born in Texas, served in the military for nearly a decade and lived in a dozen states while doing such.

I served on foreign soil and currently live in the great state of Texas so I consider myself an AMERICAN first.:patriot:

I was born in the Northeast (Connecticut), joined the military, served 20 years and for my last assignment I was sent to Texas. Gordon Jennings came all the way from Connecticut to fall at the Alamo. So like him, I decided to become a Texan. I can't identify with the rest of the country anymore.

+1...As proud as I am being Texan (born & raised in SA), I'm more proud of being an AMERICAN. A lot of damn good people died for this country, for me to be anything BUT, being proud to be an AMERICAN. I know our US government is being run by a bunch of drunk monkies...right now, but I believe that will change. Hopefully in 2012 not 2016. But that is just my 2 cents.

Maybe so, I sure hope that people will wake up. I'm not very hopeful about that, though... there are alot of people out there that like the message he is peddling, I'll spread it around, it's not fair, the government will take care or you...

My fear is that a chunk of what today is the United States will need to remove itself from the rest of the diseased body to save itself.

Which is my thought as well, Jeff B. I love America, but by who's running it, I don't think she loves me anymore. Maybe he will be voted out, but I don't have that much faith in the sheeple of the USSA. Why? Because while in Texas you probably know more conservatives than libs, it's not like that elsewhere. Alot of the folks I meet while at work think everything he says is another slice of heaven. Is secession the way to go? Perhaps not right now, but it should always be on the table as an option. The problem I see is that by the time people want to secede, they won't be able to. It takes ALOT for the average person to get worked up enough to actually stand up and fight for their rights. Look throughout history and you will see people oppressed to extreme levels for many generations. How far gone will "America" be before we actually put a stop to the BS that comes from capitol hill and tell them we've had enough? These are the ramblings of a very tired person...I'll probably have to edit/answer q's in the morning...lol

Remember that in 1776, 1/3 of the folks wanted Independence, 1/3 wanted to remain a colony and 1/3 didn't really care either way.

    It's not always majority rules.

Sometimes its who wants it worse.

I'm a Native Texan. I joined the military, served twenty years and subsequently retired to Minnesota, one of my duty stations and home of my ex-wife. I returned home just over a year ago, only to be very disillusioned in my home state. Texas is not as I once knew her. However, I am willing to work to return Texas to it's roots. One of my concerns is the Texas Concealed Carry Law. It REALLY needs some work. (I had a carry permit from Minnesota when I returned home)

Maybe I'm mistaken or only associate with people that think like me. To me, the Texas frame of mind has always been to take care of yourself, be self sufficient, add to America don't take from American, a hand up is one thing - a hand out is something to be ashamed of.

As kids, we were shamed if we showed weakness, untruthfulness, or laziness. Now I'm not saying it wasn't a form or behavior control or modification, just saying.

The American frame of mind has become entitlements, welfare, kumbaya, racism (forward and reverse), victimhood, bailouts, and a nanny state. I don't share the values, or tolerance of said values, that many of my fellow Americans have.

I still open the door for people, make my kids do it, say hello when someone looks over, and will help someone if it's within my power and not intrusive to either of us. Try asking someone in NYC for the time of day or directions to Penn Station.
