CPS and APS should have been restarted from scratch decades ago. Even when I returned to Texas in '01 I was reading horrific stories about their repeated failures. Worse, it seemed that the supervisors were never terminated despite their role in the tragedies.

My wife worked as a contractor for CPS in the panhandle and got disgusted. Real cases of neglect and abuse would be ignored or dropped per order of supervisors due to the connections of the parents involved. And made up cases against folks who were "bucking the system" in the local community were pushed in order to muzzle or break them.

Sadly, this isn't a problem that is just localized either. It's a national problem.

You want to hear another holy-shit-how-can-this-happen CPS story? Back almost 8 years ago, we were doing a foster adoption of 2 brothers who the existing foster family said they didn't want them anymore since one of them had too many problems. We took them in and about a week later, they told us that our fingerprints they had on file "expired" 2 months ago and they would need to take the children back while we got new fingerprints taken. So, they had already been in a total of 4 homes at the age of almost 2 and almost 3, let's pull them from this home that wants them and throw them back to the home that doesn't want them, for a week while the fingerprints go through.
    I was beyond pissed.
They are the most maligned fucked-up-bureaucratic government entity I have seen.

On a positive note: those 2 brothers have been adopted by us, are 9 and 10 now, and are both honor roll students, and both love shooting at the range and shooting bow and arrows in the back yard.

The biggesr problem wth CPS, not just in Texas, is there are too many of them that are convinced that they know how to make better decisions for your family than you do. And they don't care what they have to do to you to prove it.
