Another thing I haven't seen in years in the Houston area is fireflies.
Here in rural Arkansas they are now out every night by the lake.
Brings back memories just seeing them.
I'm not quite as 'mature' as you but grew up catching them in SW Houston. They were around in Spring TX while I was there from '92 - '05 but not nearly as thick as my childhood. I don't recall the last time I saw one here until moments ago, a single lightning bug. Flashed about 10 times then suddenly disappeared . . it may have got sucked into the neighbors AC. :( lol

    Ft Davis is still awesome
Alpine on the other hand has done went to hell...

I first visited Ft Davis at 12yo stayed at Indian Lodge when it was privately owned and the structures at the fort were just collapsed bldgs. You could explore anywhere, collect artifacts and nobody cared. A real experience at 12...damn hadn't thought being that old for awhile!!!

Outdoor writer Ray Sasser wrote a book some years ago entitled View From a Tower Blind: Reflections of a Texas Whitetail Hunter. Great read even if you're not a big hunter. I used to read it every fall. Here are a few pics from one of my tower blinds from years past.

November sunrise with the sky on fire.

One of the few good points of living in West Texas is the awesome sunsets.

    Nice backup generator. Reassuring.
There's a hospital in the same building. Unfortunately our office is on a different wiring system so we do not benefit from the generator.

Damn. So you have to listen to it and look at it. But you get no benefit from it. Married?

Ok, don’t make me bring the hammer down to set criteria for what’s appropriate to post in here and what’s not. I’m quite sure no one wants to see the Dow Chemical Plant. Don’t make me post that here to make a point.

If you do then I’m going to start posting photos of our pumping unit yards in Odessa.
