I'm a new Texan. My mom was born here, if you count Ft. Bliss as Texas, but I'm an American first. So, put me down in the well-armed, and pro-American, opposition to secession camp... LOL

I voted "yes" mostly because I'm so disgusted with what's happening in Washington. But in truth I don't think anyone, including me, is really aware of how monumental a task it is. Our mess of a state constitution would have to be rewritten and there are thousands of issues that have to be resolved. Extricating the federal government would be a nightmare. And the sitcky questions like what about the military? What about property owners who don't live in Texas (taxation)? And many others we haven't even thought of. All of the problems can be solved but it would take years and that's without opposition from the federal government or all of the lawsuits that would undoubtedly ensue. Sessesion is one of those pleasent daydreams I sometimes endulge in...

Ya know, along those lines, I too have some relatives who are die-hard, union bred, suck at the teet, democrats.

We don't talk much but when we do, they don't DARE mention politics to me. I have shot them down (verbally) and their beliefs and they know they can't beat me.

I recall my sister, married to a union worker, back in 2007, we were talking about the coming election and I asked them about who they were planning to vote for. The frontrunner was Hitlery, Obamma was looking good, so I asked if they were prepared to vote for the black. She said they were "leaning" to John Edwards, they liked him a lot.

I got loud, told her that "he is an ambulance chaser, got rich on the backs of screwing the little people, a real puke". Guess that tells you how good I am at predicting politics. I could just smell a t_rd on him.

It's sad what this country has become, a nation of "gimme's". It can only get worse.

Oh, I too voted for Texas to seccede. I hope we try, just to pizz off the La La Landers and the NE Yankees.

there is no need seccede. there is a need for strong local government to tell washington to pound sand.

I dont need washington telling me that i have to buy health insurance or that i have to give up my guns. I dont need them telling me how much food i can have a month. Im not one to just sit around and lets some marxist SOB that should have nver even been allowed to run according to constitutional law tell me what to do or turn a country that i fight for into some socialist/ marxist nation that would be worth the foodstamps his face is on.

Gonna agree with this. It will happen before a revolt. There are too many who don't feel like some people here do to throw it all away. A person, or persons with a big pair(s) of brass spheres would fare better than loading up. We are too far removed from fighting.

I voted yes, but only as a last option. We still have alot we can do to make this a better country, theres alot of fight left in real Constitution loving Americans, and we should exhaust all other avenues before seccecion. But when the SHTF and we've done all we can and washington still doesn't listen, then theres no question about it, I vote to seccede, we're still Texans as much as we are Americans.

Don't get me wrong I love this country, but we can't stop the way washington is running it, its not going to be the country I love anymore, but at least we'll still have Texas.

I don't think full succession is really necessary, but I would like to see a clear line drawn and the flat out refusal by the state to do anything that is outside of the constitution. Of course we need to prepare ourselves for when the federal money teat is turned off, because that is how the federal government tries to blackmail states into bending to their will. Ever wonder why Louisiana's roads were so crappy for so long? See their fight to keep their drinking age at 18. I'm all for being independent as possible however, and I think if we really worked at it, it'd be a good thing to stop receiving federal funds for stuff.

That's probably true but look at UT and the other state schools within Texas... They'd have to go privatized inflating the cost of education... Now UT's prices are already extreme compared to other state schools but the fact is if we go along with the constitution then there should be no department of education, do I agree with this, yes there doesn't need to be federally oversight of this, there will be states that fail in this area, and there will be states that achieve, it is part of the cycle of life, everyone can't achieve...

I am a proud autodidact, and education needs rarely enter my thoughts on a daily basis. My girlfriend works for UT, and my "insensitivity" to education issues causes some conflict sometimes, lol... I guess I incorrectly assume that people will learn what they want to learn regardless of what institutions are around. It is a good point however that a lot of unforeseen stuff would be effected by succession or rebellion; however I highly doubt we really need most of that "stuff". People would have to focus on needs rather than wants, but I think it'd be worth it for greater independence.

I think the world would be a much easier and happier place if we focused on needs rather than wants.

This is true. When the gov forces everybody to be winners at the expense of the real winners and achivers, everybody loses.

Nobody succeeds when the government suppresses people so that we have no breakouts in advancement... ever wonder why we've never had a Thomas Edison or a Benjamin Franklin lately?
