What to Know: A new study shows that thousands of public school officials in Texas earn six figures.

“Do public schools in Texas pay $232,000 for coordinating PE classes? What about paying $340,000 to a high school music teacher and $127,000 to a librarian?” writes Adam Andrzejewski in Forbes. “Our auditors at OpenTheBooks.com found 7,327 Texas public school administrators, athletic directors, teachers, and other employees pulled down six-figure salaries costing taxpayers nearly $1 billion. In fiscal year 2017, superintendents earned as much as $450,000; ‘executive directors for assessment and compliance’ received up to $302,820; and principals made as much as $313,870.”

One school district had been successful at earning a certain grant for 12 years running.

A new superintendent (one of those making close to a half million a year) hired a full time grant writer and a full time grant manager (to manage one employee). The new "grant team" fooled around and failed to get the grant. Did not properly complete the form and did not submit on time.

And in some areas you have an independent school district right next to another independent school district, with all the redundant administrative positions. Or two rural ISDs 10 minutes apart that have less then 500 students each (k-12). Why not combine halfway between, save some money, have better teachers, sports, etc. Nope, just had bond vote, that one by 1, for 7.5 million for new mostly sports facilities.

In Texas we have about 1200 school districts, each with an incredible admin staff, often more than the number of teachers, all making MEGA dollars. And they can all retire at staggering amounts of money, many, many retire at more than the salary they made.

Because in many of those small Texas towns the K12 Administration jobs are some of the best paying in the town, and the Super is usually pretty tied in politically to stop just this very thing from happening.

Meh when the adults realise the money is not for the kids and is to pay for the unneeded overhead costs they will stop approving vast amounts of money to "educate the children"

It will be a grand day when everyone figures out they just use that key set of words "but think of the poor children" to fill there pockets in so many business .

Nobody gives a hoot. Teachers make squat whine administrators make 6 figures. This is different today that yesterday, last week, last year, last decade how? The system is broke in many ways and IMO needs to implode before it gets any better. When parents actually have to deal with their little brats for 10 hours a day things will change. Not before.
