SUGAR LAND, Texas (AP) - A 1-week-old baby is in critical condition in the aftermath of a family hostage incident in which the child's mother says her husband held the family hostage and allegedly stabbed the child and himself.
Sugar Land police spokesman Doug Adolph says Anthony Gilbert is charged with attempted capital murder and is in custody at Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in Houston where he's being treated for self-inflicted stab wounds.
His wife, Jennifer Gilbert, went to a hospital Friday morning with the baby and their 2-year-old daughter saying her husband, who is a Lamar school district teacher, had held them hostage overnight Thursday. The infant was transported to Children's Memorial Hermann Hospital where administrator Casey Smith said Saturday the baby is in the intensive care unit.
Adolph said he didn't know if Anthony Gilbert had an attorney.

It is a crazy world we live in. Funny thing is a doctor could have performed the same act to the baby 8 days earlier and it would not be news. Very crazy world.
