    Hello all,
Was browsing through TexasGunTrader and found this post.
Don't know how I fell about this.

Maybe you guys are aware of this. This is the first time it's happened to me.
I had a lot of people interested in a firearm so I wound up setting up a meeting with one out here and League City. Well I get to the meeting point and I'm waiting for the guy to arrive and a league city cop shows up they ask for my ID which is fine and they check the weapon to make sure it wasn't stolen which is fine I understand that my problem is that after that the buyer never showed up never called I can't get ahold of him.I just wasted an hour of my time.
So, I called another guy that I had on reserve you know just in case this guy fell through and got to talking to him and it's the same damn thing.
They're trying to shut TGT down I promise you.
Don't respond to these two numbers
    It's a set up.

Can LEO's require to ask for ID & even check a firearm???
I want to say they must have reasonable suspicion/activity about it, not too sure.
I don't EVER disclose that I have a firearm unless I CC and at that point I must.
Pretty much have come to understand that LEO's are not your friend.

    Any thoughts on this meeting?
I guess they could get a stolen firearm off the streets & even an arrest if they wanted to.
If it would stick would be another question.

You can file a complaint and if you have the time and money, possibly file a harassment suit.

Not sure what parts of that post are your comments, or those copied from TGT; so I'll reply as if the latter...

As to the first question, if a person has a license (CHL/LTC) and don't know the answer to that, they need to go back and re-read Government Code §411.205!

They may also want to re-read §411.207(a) as if during the lawful discharge of their duty an officer reasonably believes it is necessary for protection of license holder, officer, or another person, he/she are allowed to disarm a license holder.

Secondly, most departments have training on the balance between safety and respecting lawful rights of license holders; so stating "LEO's are not your friend" is incorrect as well in my opinion. They have a duty to the public and that may require a brief inconvenience to someone carrying while the investigate a situation. Be polite, be respectful and comply with any requests that you believe are reasonable and you will be on your way soon enough. Most officers I know have no problem with armed, law-abiding citizens, and don't bother them for the most part. Perhaps the weapon in question matches one that was stolen, would you still feel it unreasonable for the department to follow up on it? I bet if it was yours, you would applaud them for such efforts.

I wouldn't go speculating anything from that story, and insinuating that the police are "trying to shut TGT down I promise you" just demonstrates how out of touch with reality the author is. TexasGunTrader has been around for years and the vast majority of transactions that come from that website are legit and above board. Sounds like there is more to the situation than what is being shared, but of course that may negate from the point the author is trying to make so I doubt they'd want us to know the whole story.

So are you saying that it is perfectly ok for LEO's to set up a fake gun buy just on a hunch? This isn't an illegal drug buy. Sounds to me like entrapment.

Could be the officer was running his own little sting operation to find stolen guns. His Chief might be interested in that.

Someone posted a response on texas gun trader in regards to the original post:

    "TGT name: 11Charlie

First and foremost let's get the story strait.
You were trying to meet @11 pm on Christmas Eve.

We can put the messages out if you would like?
I didn't show, why? Well because it was 11pm on Xmas Eve.. I fell asleep waiting before I gave up.. 11 is just too late man.. I had been in contact with the gentlemen about the EA for most of the day.. I was under the impression our deal would take place at a decent hour...

Now to address the "police set up" first off it seems you would be nervous doing a trade with police in the first place? Doesn't make sense if your legit with Nothing to hide..I have done many trades with big deal. I been around for many years with many many good encounters trading.. Hell if you trade frequently check your phone for my number (409-599-8479)... I bet you can't find another person who has any negative to say about me.

Now let's get to the part that made you think it was a "set up".... You showed up I'm guessing at a location that was closed @11 pm on Xmas Eve... I bet there wasn't another car in the parking lot.. So I'm sure from a officer on duty's perspective that it looked suspicious...

I texted you this morning and I will also say it here, I apologise for falling asleep.. I have 4 kids with allot going on Christmas Eve and Christmas day therefore staying up late waiting for a trade to happen wasn't on my priority list.. I should have told you in our last message that I was just gonna call it off but I didn't so I did apologise in that note.

As far as the other guy he talks about in the ad, I'm curious to also hear his side of the story.. I'm guessing it was the same story with him because well it was Christmas Eve @ 11pm

    Anyways, Merry Christmas to everyone.
Enjoy the holiday season with family and friends."

If I read your post that started this thread correctly, this was something you saw in TgunT and not your own personal experience, correct?

Link to the TgunT ad posted about in #1, or it didn't happen.

Gee, amazing how things change when we get the full story...

And I was doing a deal with a member of this forum when a SAPD officer rolled up on us. He simply asked what was going on, and I told him I was buying a rifle from a buddy. He said they got a call that someone was "shooting at a billboard in the parking lot of a Valero" which in reality was me checking the scope on the rifle I was purchasing. We asked if he wanted to see our driver licenses, CHLs and/or the rifle in question and he said it wasn't necessary, he just had to check things out because of the call. He wished us a good day and left.

Now, I could easily spin that story into one of police harassment; but I understand the officer was simply doing his duty. Had he wanted to check our IDs and/or the firearm, I would have gladly complied. It would have supported our story and allowed him to come to the correct conclusion that the situation wasn't what was reported.

Anyone who makes such statements such as "LEO's are not your friend" and "(the police are) trying to shut TGT down I promise you" has an agenda and will only present biased information. Now that the other side has been shared, that's even more obvious.
