First ... big thanks for doing a thankless job.

Second, I am a former educator (10 years on faculty at TAMU), but I don't have any document proving such. Heck, I don't even have any 20 year old paystubs.

So, how do you propose Academy confirm your status as a retired educator?

The shaky hands and the bourbon breath? That would be me after dealing with those kids. I knew one guy who taught junior high math for 30 odd years and there was not anything that could upset him. I was and still am jealous.

I'm kind of in agreement with @45tex - teachers like to bitch about not having enough money - but they get paid more than most people, they have cushy gubmint retirements, they're damn near unfireable thanks to public employee union power, they get long breaks that they're paid for, and teachers all across the country threw a goddamned hissy fit when told "get back to work" - screaming that they were all gonna die from the Rona.

Add to that, many teachers indoctrinate kids with leftist political ideology instead of focusing on teaching the basics necessary to be successful in life. Public education is 13 years of indoctrination disguised as "education" - how many public school grads have you met that cannot do simple math without a calculator or smart phone?

Not sorry, I don't think teachers are all that special, I think many get paid too much while others get paid far too little, and they're a damned whiney bunch as a whole. I've seen far, far too many teacher's unions go on strike during the school year bitching about not getting enough pay, but then they turn around and say they "do it for the children" - pick one. If its really selflessness and a desire to pass along knowledge to the next generation, shut the hell up about "we want more money" - if its about the money, stop saying anything you do is "for the children" - because its not.

When teachers go on strike and shut down schools, they should be fired. They're public employees denying the public services which are compulsory. Its akin to "blue flu" - sorry, if you're a public servant, find another way to get your message across than striking, or quit your job and go private sector where you can get paid more. No one put a gun to your head and told to you become a teacher.

I've met a number of "teachers" or students on track to becoming teachers who did it solely because of the government subsidies and tuition forgiveness. We would be better served by giving medical students, and civil/mechanical engineers tuition forgiveness to get more kids involved in STEM, so we can stop importing those people from third world shitholes along with their socialist ideals.

Public education needs an overhaul as much or moreso than the "criminal justice" system, the prison system, and "healthcare".

I would like to thank Academy Sports for not including retired teachers in their teachers promotion.
Between the Demoncraps turning their backs on us and Academy we now know how much our service
    was appreciated.

The closet I got to a teacher job was working the Camp Pendleton Brig in 1967. Going to regiment to get my orders for WesPac ground forces was a blessing.

Hold em up hell yeah you are important but do not for one minute or reason think you more important than the rest of us. I was reading when I was 3 thanks to my parents and grandparents.
I was working on cars at 10 driving tractors at 8. I learned not to pee on a electric fence at 6 .
You are important but parents are. More important so don't sit on your soap box and think you walk the water.
I trust you almost implicitly to educate my kids and grandchildren.

Had some great teachers as a kid, who really gave themselves to the position.
Had some absolutely fucking horrible ones too. Teachers are still people.

My kids have seen a lot more political influence and opinion-based education than I ever did though. They've seen a lot more selective teaching of history, history delivered with a social narrative, a negative focus on personal achievement in lieu of group-think, and a glaringly obvious dilution of the importance of academic achievement.

When current day teachers complain about everything and demand special treatment, that's a bit rich. At least in the areas I've been living the past 20 years, teachers are starting out being paid pretty well and have excellent benefits.

    Here's Conroe ISD for example:
Conroe ISD Teacher and Librarian Pay Scale

As I also understand it, this is the base salary. Benefits go on top, and there's additional compensation for furthering education credits and such.

'Top of the hill, Kerr County!
As a retired teacher and administrator I feel I must comment. If a parent or citizen is fed up with the teachers, you're looking in the wrong direction for change. The state determines the curriculum, the citizens elect the school board, the administration follows their requests and directs the teachers what to teach (based on what the state has mandated) and ......... how to teach it. A theory about the teachers being responsible for all things wrong with education is totally wrong. It would be like blaming the carpenters helper for a structure being built poorly! Yes, there are some teachers that should try some other occupation. The teachers are at the bottom of the ladder. They must teach the curriculum that is mandated by the state. The majority of the teachers I knew did there job well. If the teacher is incompetent, they should be dealt with accordingly.

Glad I became an engineer looking at that pay scale lol makes my job worth waking up for in the morning.

Also considering what kids are like today, I think they might need a pay bump
