Just saw a posting on SlickDeals that Sams Club has 5 cu ft chest freezers for $169. I downsized 2 years ago and we bought a similar product. Granted they aren't big but chest freezers are more efficient at storing that stand-up freezers. Self defrost but I only defrost once in the spring and fall. Takes less than an hour. Just a thought...

We have a chest style freezer in the garage. When I build our new mud/laundry room in the garage, I'm considering going to an upright freezer.

Upright is the way to go for me.
Chest freezers have a bigger footprint and things tend to get lost in them and you have do constantly dig around and make sure things are rotated.
Upright freezers show you everything when you open the door.

The new room will be 9x7, so the upright will be better space wise.

Every chest freezer I’ve seen, requires manual defrost.

    Hard pass from me.
