When it was impossible to buy 22 ammo in 2008/09 I heard two gentlemen talking in Cabela's about 17HMR and how readily available it was. So, I purchased a Marlin bolt action and it remained in the safe until last year. I bought a scope and it rivals my 10-22's. Great shooting gun, extremely accurate.

They're so accurate it's almost unfair.

I was early to jump on the 17 HMR bandwagon! I started reading up and researching the 17 HMR in 2003, and in 2004, bought a Savage M93R17 that I still have.

At the time I started doing some research about the 17 HMR, I had a year or so before sold my Marlin bolt action 22 Mag to a friend, and started missing it, and just doing some late night searching on a couple of gun sites ran across an article about the 17 HMR and the more I read, the more interested I became. So I decided to replace the recently departed 22 Mag with a 17 HMR instead.

In 2004, I bout the Savage and have been more than pleased with it's performance over the years. Savage had just recently brought out their rimfires in the new cartridge, so when I bought mine, there wasn't the selection available as there is now. I wanted the "varmint" heavy barrel, but for that, the only option was the factory synthetic stock, which I hated. First change I made was ordering a Boyds laminated stock for it, then installed a Rifle Basix adjustable sear, then replaced the factory supplied 3-9 scope with a BSA Sweet 17 in 6-18x40 scope.

Bought a Savage A17 when Walmart clearances them for $75. Had a ton of fun with it when I sighted it in but noticed a had quiet a few cases that were ruptured. Other than that the caliber is amazing. Guess I need to call Savage and go shooting again

I wish my Tikka was only $75. Wow.
