In 1966 when I was 9, my parents took me to Mass. when we went to visit my sister that was working in Hyannis for the summer. We took a tourist boat ride to Nantucket. (Even at that age I noticed how "touristy" it was.) I remember being told that there was nothing there to see. I wonder if that was what my parents were told.

I'm a little disconcerted by the lack of thought going into some of these incidents. Specifically, sending Venezuelans to Martha's Vineyard seems really stupid to me. Those people were fleeing real communism. They know from personal experience the evils of leftist thinking. We should welcome Venezuelans; they are strongly motivated to assimilate to and embrace core American values.
It would have been much better to send some Guatemalans. Those folks can improve their lot just by moving one country north into Mexico where the growth in manufacturing and other jobs would benefit them. They didn't need to come all the way to the USA.
There's a reason recent Dem administrations have tended to unreasonably restrict immigration from Venezuela; too many potential Republicans.
