Received this in an e-mail a while back. I'm sure many of you've seen it, but I still love the idea.

The Country of Texas...Gotta Love it Ya'll!

Please note that Texas is the only state with a legal right to secede from the Union. (Reference the Texas-American Annexation Treaty of 1848.)

We Texans love y'all, but we'll probably have to take action since B. Hussein Obama won the election. We'll miss you too.

Here is what can happen:

1: Barack Hussein Obama becomes President of the United States, Texas immediately secedes from the Union.

2: George W. Bush will become the President of the Republic of Texas.

So what does Texas have to do to survive as a Republic?

3. NASA is just south of Houston, Texas. We will control the space industry.

4. We refine over 85% of the gasoline in the United States.

5. Defense Industry--we have over 65% of it.. The term "Don't mess with Texas," will take on a whole new meaning.

6. Oil - we can supply all the oil that the Republic of Texas will need for the next 300 years. Yankee liberal states? Sorry about that.

7. Natural Gas - again we have all we need and it's too bad about those Northern States. John Kerry will have to figure out a way to keep them warm....

8. Computer Industry - we currently lead the nation in producing computer chips and communications--small companies like Texas Instruments, Dell Computer, EDS, Raytheon, National Semiconductor, Motorola, Intel, AMD, Atmel, Applied Materials, Ball Miconductor, Dallas Semiconductor, Delphi, Nortel, Alcatel, etc, etc. The list goes on and on.

9. Medical Care - We have the largest research centers for cancer research, the best burn centers and the top trauma units in the world, as well as other large health centers. Houston has some of the best hospitals in the United States.

10. We have enough colleges to keep us going: Baylor University, the University of Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Rice, SMU, University of Houston, UNT (University of North Texas), Texas Women's University, etc. Ivy grows better in the South anyway.

11. We have a ready supply of workers. We could just open the border when we need some more.

12. We have essential control of the paper industry, plastics, insurance, etc.

13. In case of a foreign invasion, we have the Texas National Guard and the Texas Air National Guard. We don't have an Army, but since everybody down here has at least six rifles and a pile of ammo, we can raise an Army in 24 hours if we need one. If the situation really gets bad, we can always call the Department of Public Safety and ask them to send over Chuck Norris and a couple of Texas Rangers.

14. We are totally self-sufficient in beef, poultry, hogs, and several types of grain, fruit and vegetables, and let's not forget seafood from the Gulf. Also, everybody down here knows how to cook them so that they taste good.

This just names a few of the items that will keep the Republic of Texas in good shape. There isn't a thing out there that we need and don't have.

Now to the rest of the United States under President Obama:

Since you won't have the refineries to get gas for your cars, only President Obama will be able to drive around in his big 9 mpg SUV. The rest of the United States will have to walk or ride bikes.

You won't have any TV as the Space Center in Houston will cut off satellite communications.

You won't have any natural gas to heat your homes, but since Mr. Obama has predicted global warming, you will not need the gas as long as you survive the 2000 years it will take to get enough heat from Global Warming.

Between Tomball & Waller
Man that sounds like a plan to me but not Bush for president.
Over the years he has turned to liberal for me.
I think I would run for the office and there would be no rewrite of the
constitution no UN influince or Euro ideas on how we should act.
Every one works or they dont eat, every one is responseable for his or her acts, those of age will be called upon to
defend the United State of Texas if needed.
Any one that finds that they cant abide by those and a few other senseable laws have 30 days to pack up and leave.

Agreed . I didn't edit it before posting as I didn't have anyone in mind, but from all everyone has said about you in the Meet and Greet thread, I may just have to vote for you too. Love the ideas already. Good platform to start on.

Ron Paul can be the president of the Republic of Texas.
Chuck Norris can lead and be in command of the Texas Rangers.

Maybe we could get Ford and or Chrysler to move down here and leave the unions to government motors.

308Nato started with the right idea, here's a few more.As he said,if you are able you work,no welfare for the lazy.People over 65 won't have to work but can if they want to.Crininals would be executed, there will be no crime period. It can be done. All men 18 will sign up for a 2 year draft to learn responsibility and discipline and to protect our great state. There would be a flat rate tax of 10%,with no loopholes. Those are just a few, there could be many

Enjoyed it but the Texas Annexation Treaty was in 1845 not 1848 and there is no provision about being able to secede. There was a provision to split Texas in to five different states. See

The reference to the "secede" legend is in the last paragraph.

Thanks for the link and correction...I really need to do my homework before re-posting random emails...but I don't feel so bad because someone from Florida posted it online and says they want to come too.Tracy Karol Texas American Annexation Treaty 1848 changed it alittle, but still just as much a good idea. Either way, we'd split at as a whole and kick their rear for our freedom. And if any liberal minded folk don't like it, there's 49(florida's on their own) other states for you to enjoy. Go away....lmao

Edit:Re-read the link you and according to it, we seceded from the union between 1861-1865...

Yes to Ron Paul
Yes to Chuck Norris
Yes to Flat Tax
Yes to Mandatory 2 yr Hitch
No to Welfare
Yes to Neighborly Community Help
Yes to Laws in Concrete (no living document)

I would add, truth in advertising laws being extended to politicians.

Re-read the link you and according to it, we seceded from the union between 1861-1865...

The "Treaty" email implies that Texas could legally secede whereas other states could not. Texas, along with the other Confederate states, did secede from the union at the start of the Civil War, but it was not done because of any imagined right or provision within the Treaty of 1845. Texas, along with the other states, felt it was their right to secede based on the U.S. Constitution guarantees of "States Rights". Most historians agree that the Civil War resulted in a stronger, central federal government and that it reduced States rights, much like we're seeing now with BHO's attack on the banks, car industry, etc. to gain control over the infrastructure since he can't do much more to reduce what each state does internally.
