Ys, I saw that, but it seems to me there is a disconnect between the headline and the claim of "exploding membership" but I do not see facts to support that, only facts on searches.

Sure it is, and I'll be happy if the membership numbers went up as a result of all the searches, but so far see no information to backup the headline. Breitbart is not immune from making headline claims with no backup info similar to what other news outlets do.

I believe they did get many memberships. I know they got at least one, mine, and I'm sure that many others that were upset with NRA did also in light of the political atmosphere. The NRA typically gets surges whenever there is a lot of gun control talk.
