what follows is a gospel true story .. it's about shooting at a sign from a moving motorcycle.. for those of you who ride the short buss.. please don't do this.. it's way illegal.. but fun..
gospel .. quick set up.. the eighties found me on a bike more than a car.. some years (as in a number of them) i only owned a bike.. you can do this in Tucson..which is located about 130 miles NW of Sierra Vista.. which is the home of a major Army isig corp intel base, and one of the oldest (buffalo soldiers) bases in the SW..
part of the route is a 50 mile straight N and S road that leads from SV to I-10.. it's a gentle 15 degree slope (think this is called a bajada) that crests about half way.. so you can see forever in both directions.. that, plus the fact that it was pretty deserted back then led the fore mentioned shooting to be safer than it sounds.. still illegal, but day or night you really could see forever..
my family lived in SV.. so i made the trip at least once a week.. winter (yes you can ride on snow) ((carefully)) and summer.. i've always carried.. and SPECIALLY on a bike.. nothing will make Uncle Fred give you some room like the sight of a 1911, or any big pistol carried at 5 o'clock..
Getting back to the crest on the north south road.. on the east side of the highway 2 lanes to start with 4 by the time our story is over.. was an ADOT hiway sign... have no idea what it is.. and this story really is gospel and not going to make it up.. but a yellow highway sign in the middle of no where.. that got shot at by Greg (padre's real name obviously) at least 80% of the time i made the trip.. gave me something to do, and a LOT of fun.. i knew one of those trips i'd stop and see my shots... these were all pistol of course, and every .. most every sort of gun.. 45's/ 38's/ 357''s/ had a smith 59 so 9 mm.. this brings up something i'd forgoten.. when i first started i'd only shoot a single round or two.. as the years past'd i'd empty the piece. bottom line.. HUNDREDS of rounds ..cut to the chase.. some of you have seen this coming from NM..
NOT A HOLE IN THE SIGN.. right before i moved to Florence.. i stopped and think i even had a camera ready.. nothing.. and NO the sign had not been changed.. old rusted bolts.. .. moral of this story.. if for ANY reason, you see me coming after you with a pistol'a .. just wave.. and don't move.. your safe where you are..
