I just completed by federal tax return for last year. While taxes are necessary to operate the government, I hate to send payment to a corrupt administration. Not one cent of it will accomplish the things the federal government should be accomplishing for the citizens of this Country.

And then get it again with property taxes. I pay over 5k a year just in property tax. I DON'T live in a mansion.
    Something like this?

Just got the numbers back from the CPA. Going to be the most i’ve spent in taxes ever. Did a few rollovers and ROTH conversions (when the market was basically peaked . . ). This next year shouldn’t be as bad.

True, but the illegals thank each and every one of us for making the free handouts possible.

$13k in property taxes for us here. The escrow every month is about $400 more than the principal & interest.
Just got the appraisal in for 2022. My home value shot way up from what it appraised at last year. People fleeing the communist states are driving all of the real estate up. Time to protest taxes again..

Many people have said it many times: if you paid $0 in taxes, then had to calculate it on April 1 and physically write the check or type out the numbers on the payment screen, more people would lose their mind. Pretty amazing decades ago someone figured out if you made it "hidden" throughout the year of paying a bit in each paycheck, nobody seems to mind paying thousands or tens of thousands throughout the year.

I don't buy into the baloney of "government needs taxes to operate!" because of how wasteful it is due to size, the intentional waste of needing to spend 110% of their budget every year so they can 'justify' a larger budget next year, and the crap like senators getting a booklet of stamps and oh yeah getting some petty cash to spend for daily operations. Don't even get me started on research grants, spending hundreds of millions on stupid junk like mating habits of the blue tailed pidgeons.

Woah Nelly, anyone else get their county appraisal notice? Our appraisal in Montgomery County went up over $200k. Pushing the property tax to $16.4k/year. At least it will take a few years of maxing out the 10% cap due to homestead exemption to get there, but Jiminy Christmas.

I owed more this year than I made in salary 30 years ago. That's just income tax.

Add property tax, sales tax, gasoline tax...

I'm sure many of us are paying 45-50% in total taxes.

I guess we are paying for all those free crack pipes, cell phones, and diapers for FJB.

Williamson county is just as bad. Everyone keeps saying how great it is that values are up. Not so great for those of us with no intention on selling. Even for the ones that want to sell now have the challenge of where to go. I’m in construction and a lot of people are selling their houses in California and moving here. Texas property prices were nothing to them. They are offering 50k minimum and up with no inspection just because. They are ruining any chance the younger Texas generation can ever afford a house in their hometown. Austin has become overrun with out of staters who are buying everything and turning it into California. Problem is it’s pushing less desirable people out into what use to be affordable areas raising prices and crime rates. Very tragic events and not very appreciated by locals in the least.

    For me, it's a motivation-buster.

I did some contract work after I retired and made really good money at it. When it bumped me into higher tax bracket and I saw that I paid almost 50% of my contract earnings because of it, I decided not to continue in the position.

What motivation is there for a young person to bust his or her ass to have things they see their unemployed friends getting for free?

This is the boat I’m in right now. I’m making way more but getting taxed so bad it’s really not worth it. It’s good in the sense that you are a productive member of society and can afford luxuries in life. However your working so hard that you have no time to enjoy life or those luxuries. Not to mention being told it must be nice by all the lazy ass people who are sponging off everybody. Also trying to find workers is next to impossible. No knowledge or experience and want to make $200 or more a day. That’s if you find anyone that will show up and actually work. This is exactly why contractors have a bad name. The decent honest ones don’t see the point of it, which in turn brings the crooks and thieves out.
