My birthday was last week. I was six when you were born. Stop complaining. Think of all the friends that are not here anymore. Happy Birthday and wish you many more.

Being self insured right now means they weighed me, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen levels, a few listening to the chest with the stethoscope. My doctor somewhat confirmed I have my very first hernia @ 60 years old.

Blew off the chest ex-ray, EKG, blood work, urine work & ultrasound to comfirm the hernia.

    Sorry to hijack.

If you're self insured a direct primary care doctor (DPC) is the best thing going. You pay about $80 a month, get unlimited access, and much cheaper labs, x-rays, & tests. A CBC (complete blood count) is about $3 at mine.

I use Dominion Primary Care. Check it out for an example.

There's also Cibolo & Direcet Med Clinic nearby.

Back on track, Happy Birthday. I turn 74 next month and know of which you speak. My family's men (five) never made it past 67 so I am blessed somehow. I know the disappointment when the specialist viewed my spinal MRI and announced that my golfing days were over. I was capable of shooting in the 80s and still from the white tees. So I took up weekly shooting. Now the old lefty has starting to shake (not the fatal kind) just the damn aggravating kind. So I am pleasantly surprised to see that I am pretty good right handed. Have always shot rifles and shotguns right handed anyway, just grew up doing so. Really ticks me off now with all those left handed molded holsters. Could move EDC from 9 to position 5, I guess.
Any way, to the young guns, keep moving and forward, cause if you stop, you might not re-start and stomping on daises is surely better than pushing them up!

Happy birthday! I'm about 12 years behind you and can already relate.
I don't do a lot of the things I used to do. It's cheaper to hire some things done than pay the medical bills that may result!

Happy birthday old man but do not feel so old because you do have your memories of your youth and not all older folks do. Anyway, sounds like you still get around pretty good for 71 but too bad about the wood pile thing. I am about 7 years your junior and the only wood I have seen as of late has been in my hands but it always is that of the grips on my handguns or the stocks on my rifles and shotguns. As for the rest of it, I know all too well most of the maladies you have but at a much younger age, such is life I suppose. I would have taken much better care of myself had I paid more attention to the old folks I knew when I was young! I bet we older farts all would have done so.

Anyway, please enjoy the remainder of your birthday to the fullest and think this as you do: Old age and treachery always overcome youth and inexperience! It happens no matter how you look at it. (Many younger folks may argue that is not true but only because they see it one way and not in all the ways there are to interpret it.) That phrase often brings a smile to my face when I think it, it is just so right.

Have a blessed and wonderful rest of your birthday and sleep well tonight with the thought that there is a large group of us in the world and we definitely have overcome youth and inexperience by our ages.

I’m about 4 years your junior and I don’t feel much different physically than I did 30 years ago except that I just don’t have the stamina I used to have, my eyesight stinks and I can’t sleep more than 5-6 hours a night (and I used to sleep like a baby).

Although I don’t feel my age, I walk past a mirror sometimes and wonder who that old man is looking back at me.

    I am almost 63.
I have had back problems and arthritis since my late 20s from injuries as a kid and the fact that I would not let bigger stronger people out work me. I can still do anything I could at 20 even though I am 3 times that age. It just hurts 3 times as bad and takes 3 times as long to get over than it used to.
The family says I am a decrepit old man trying to act like I am 15....
They are right. Just because I am a decrepit old man does not mean I have to act like one or be one.
Besides, I had a lot of fun at that age....

    Happy Birthday!

I too struggle with the frustrating limitations of my age. I think not being able to do so many things I once could is worse than the pain. I accept the pain, having to ask for help is more difficult.

You don't mention where you live but if you're reasonably close give me a yell and I bring over my mulching yard vac.

Getting old is not for the meek.

I have a theory that the experience we gain over a lifetime lets us understand a lot about what works and what doesn't. We get old and we see the world going into the crapper and the aggravation of it helps drive us into the grave. Maybe that's the way it's supposed to be.
