I made that mistake with all my pistols. Frog Lube sucks.

I remember famous revolver aficionado Grant Cunningham stating that he used a vegetable-based lubricant similar to what is used on deli meat slicers on his guns. He states that it works as well as a petroleum lube, and it doesn't irritate the skin or have poisonous side effects.
    Is it mint flavored?

I use lubriplate food grade aluminum base, I read about it in a gun magazine years ago and find it works great. I divided the 1lb can into 3 portions and now I, and two friends, have a lifetime supply.

This thread is a gem. Judging from the 7 pages of comments (69 in all), one could reasonably conclude that no one commenting on this thread actually watched GunBlue490's video. But that’s what makes this thread such a gem. It serves as an exemplar of the more farcical side of internet discussions......

IIRC, GunBlue is a retired police armorer and certified gunsmith. What he actually says is 1) only lubricate the contact points; 2) don't overlubricate; 3) don't fall for clever marketing as inexpensive oils work just as well as expensive ones. YMMV.

Welcome Geohicks and thank you for your post.

    Lol. Oil your guns.

Pick a product. Motor oil works, i like slip 2000, juat avoid frog lube. If its a pistol, or a garand/carbine/m14, use grease. For pistols i like TW25B, and my Garand and Carbine get lubriplate

Close to 90% of malfunctions i see are caused by a lack of lubricant
I often go with full synth Mobil1 ATF. Its light, lots of additives, good lubricity, and cheap.

    I've also used
    Super Lube, a silicone grease.

Mobil1 T6 full synth motor oil

    Various other greases

    Boeshield T9

    Motorcycle chain lubes

Bottom line is most "lubes" work just fine, I dont know of any common lubricant (we will exclude water based ones for this) that won't check the "WORKS" box.

There is no "best", only better for conditions.
