Damn both of my parents live less than 2 miles from there, stopped there plenty of times. Thanks for posting, a creapy event is what motivated me to get my CHL several years ago. You'll never regret it.

Not a bad idea, in this day and age, to have all the options you can get your hands on...

I used to live close to there too. Saw the writing on the wall and got out. One night I listened to kids empty a pistol mag on the street behind my house.

I'm kinda surprised that anyone living in or near Houston still has that "oh shit that's right near where I live" type of reaction to stuff like this.

That doesn't happen in Katy much, specifically Cinco Ranch. That's kind of why families live out there.

Remember when Cinco Ranch was a working cattle ranch.

The foreman and his wife, Pete and Helen, were regulars at an old time Texas dance hall, The Brown Barn, on FM1093 that burned down in the mid 70's. As teenagers, it was one of the places we were likely to get a beer with no questions asked, it was that far out in the country.

How times have changed that area...

    That's why I live here!

25 miles is near Houston, near enough that you are not immune. That was the point I was trying to make. As much as the surrounding areas have grown in the last 10 years, so has crime.

I agree that getting your CHL is long overdue. ;)

I do not think that it was a random event. The available evidence does not support the victim as being a high value target. I am not making any judgement. The loss of life is always tragic. My thoughts and prayers to the victims family.

Most of the available population in the area would make a much more desirable target for a robbery. I would have to conclude it happened for other reasons.

In many other parts of the world a robbery is almost a normal transaction. Both parties know that if no one is a hero, it will be over fast, and no one gets hurt.

Maybe slightly off topic, but I hear you MK. I was on here for quite a while without my CHL - I really didn't feel the need. But too many of these type of situations come up, time after time. Being a good Boy Scout I thought "Be Prepared" was the sensible thing. The thing that really tipped the scale was my decision to pull the trigger if the time came.

Sorry there is no longer any safe zones anymore. Crooks are predators, just like in the wild.
Prey moves so does the predator. Follow the money, if i was a home invader i go to the soft targets. Expensive houses, curtains never drawn, garage doors left up.
And people wit the mentality that it can't happen here. And then the thought in the soft target thinks you can negotiate with evil.
Arm yourself and carry at all times when legal.
