I bought a new fan belt and I think it's too small. Slips on with some tension plug it in and motor buzzes won't spin. So I pulled the belt off and the motor spins fine. I put a 21" belt on. Im thinking a 22" belt will solve my issue.

Does the other pulley spin fairly easily?

I have put some belts on pretty tight and have yet to stall a motor because of it.

If it did run it would probably make quick work of the bearings.

Measuring belts is a pain too.

Have to agree with Dawico. I have worked on all kinds of pulley systems. The only time I ever had one lock up from belt tension is when a pulley was in the process of locking up anyway. I have had them bind up, but not lock.

This is a tumbler I built with pillow top bearings. I first wanted to run it for a couple of seconds to see if the pulleys were straight.
So today I filled each bearing with grease plugged it in and it's running. After 5 mins I killed it.
Belt was warm and the bearing was warm but not hot has plenty of grease, shaft spins straight. Motor is cool.

Locked from dry bearings? That I could believe. Normal for belts and bearings to heat up with use.
