    i used win 30.06 springfield Super X, 165 grain

the recoil is about what you'd expect - but what i noticed is that because the rifle is as heavy as it is - it seems to absorb more of that -than a lighter rifle in the same caliber does

i also fired a Winchester 94 30-30, and i had a tougher time grouping shots with it than I did the M1

let me put it this way

my other rifle is a Kimber 8400 .300 WinMag - which will knock the ever living s*** out of your shoulder

i'm not feeling that this morning!

You need an adjustable gas plug if you're going to use commercial .30-06 unless it's M1-specific .30-06. Op rod and receiver damage can result otherwise.

My savage 270 kicks, so I was wondering since this is a heavier rifle and semi auto what would feel like.

i'm not sure what to compare it too - it kicks, no doubt but it felt great

compared to other rifles i've fired - minus the M16

My Garand is much easier on the shoulder than my H and R 270. It is more of a push than a kick. If you shoot a lot of rounds from a bench rest you will feel it though, so don't shoot from a bench.

I shoot standing up anyway. Not much into bench shooting unless its an ar etc. When does one even shoot from a bench rest? When I hunt I use shooting sticks.
