Traveling to Bonito Lake New Mexico

Me, my little brother, and the folks are going up to Bonito Lake next weekend to do some trout fishing. (We need a break especially with my aunt being in the hospital and all)

I was wondering about taking my gun on the trip? Is it legal illegal?

I have no CHL so this is strictly car carry.

Bonito Lake is nice though it's been a bit dry in the area. Good luck with the trout (easy place to get a non-resident temporary fishing license is Western Auto in Ruidoso) and I hope your family gets the break you need.
