    I agree.

I understand they claim the right because the Expo center is government property (which is strangely enough why they can't do this), but this will embolden them to take more steps if they get away with it.

    Good points.

What is that law called "pre-emption"? Cities can't pass more restrictive laws on their citizens but perhaps they can on companies? (I don't know)

Yes, pre-emption. Thank goodness Texas has it. Illinois and other states don't, which is why places like Chicago are hellholes.

Saxet being a company has nothing to do with it. The State of Texas does not require background checks on sales between individual residents. Doesn't matter whether it's at a gun show, McBride's parking lot, my backyard, or your living room. It's not required. Therefore, no Texas county, city, or political subdivision can impose such requirement, as it would be more restrictive than state law.

So the gov does what they know is illegal then SAXET has to go to court to have their rights restored?

Im willing to bet dollars to donuts that the AG's office is aware and doing some homework before pulling the trigger. It'll be fun to watch the hammer drop if he comes through though!

Some very smart attorney advised the County Commissioners.... they took no action for or against, No second to a motion which then dies under Roberts Rules of Order (which Cty. Comm. operates under) sooo no action does not equate to an illegal move to require more stringent rules than required under state law., or so it would seem on the surface. What might bite the Commisars on the butt, is if it could be proven that they acted in collusion prior to the meeting to make any motion fail. Also Greg Abbott is going to tread lightly as this could bite him on the butt politically. The fact he will not win Travis county is not a big deal, what is the Governors office is a total vote issue, and Travis Cty does carry a large percentage of the voting population. What works for Abbott right now, is the fact Travis Cty and Austin are a very low voter turnout area. I think should he act in a way that would give Wendy Davis some serious ammo to hammer him with it could move voters to get out and vote against Abbott. Maybe enough to swing the vote. Right now several political analysts are seeing that Dallas/San Antonio/Houston/Fort Worth/Austin are going to be the places that elect the next Gov, not the rural Texas vote. A very hard core get out the vote in those areas is the only thing that will save Abbott Should Abbott make any missteps before the general election. For us in Travis Cty who support 2nd Amd. we need to get a couple candidates up and funded for the next Cty Comm. elections to kick Biscoe out and maybe another current Commisar.

lol good thing I live in Williamson county. Travis county is doomed to the blues and associated symptoms of being a blues fan.

Normally I'd say good-riddance too. But if we keep saying that we will end up like CO. In the long run, we can't afford to let things go without a fight. We'll get so far that way it'll be hell coing bak (CA, NY, CT, etc).

Pretty much, unless Abbott steps in and nips it in the bud like he did last time. I'm frankly a bit disappointed that he's not been heard from yet.

    What resistance?

Well, we are talking about it here. People are spreading information. Encouraging others to vote right. Id imagine there will be some sort of protest at the show and the show will be attended wherever it ends up. Should be a legal challenge developing. What else you have in mind?

Thats what i was trying to figure out too. They really took no action. Some news outlets reported just that while others said "no more gun show at Expo".

That's a cop out. Can they take "no action" if a Hispanic group applied for a permit to host a softball tournament at the Del Valle sports complex? How quickly do you think the ACLU would slap them with a lawsuit, and rightfully so? The Saxet promoter deserves an answer. This is crap.

That's all good but in the end I don't think it will change much. I think a thousand pissed off gun owners outside the front steps of the commissioners court would be a bit more effective.

Your criticism is valid. The socialists live their politics. They drop everything to rally. Most of us have families and jobs whereas they really live their radicalism first.

    Totally valid criticism.

A promoter tried Bastrop and failed per my memory. The "randman" might be able to comment" I don't think there's any buisness drive for a gun show in Bastrop otherwise it'd be there. I can only wish. This area needs another regular venue for customers/vendors with realistic purchase.sell prices in mind.

There was one show that was done by "The Real Gun Show" folks, but they did jack squat for advertising it. There were others planned by them, but the owner of the show died and the show was sold to someone else. They moved it to Giddings. I went to the Giddings show they put on and it was pathetic. No room, only a handful of private sellers... all in all bad.

Yep... Even politicians with a great track record become cowards close to an election. I'm hoping Abbott will break the mold and show us he's not just another Perry.

The county commissioners are one thing, but that's really worrisome that this Biscoe clown is a judge. The courts are supposed to be your path of recourse, not the source of prejudice. He needs to go ASAP!

Don't forget that they're immune from even being around guns they don't want since they work in a courthouse. Any demonstration would have to be outside, off the property, most likely.

County Judge is a statutory title given to one of five commissioner court positions. The county judge is elected at large while the others are by precinct. He's not really a "judge" per se in a courtroom sense.
