First off, it is not downtown. It's at 6715 Homestead Road, just outside the loop, located in Trinity-Houston Gardens. Straight up 'hood. If you have suburban sensibilities and white fright, try to be strong. It will be worth it.

Second, it is some of the best damn BBQ in all of Houston. They open at 11. There will be a substantial line formed within minutes: I showed up at 11:15 one day, and the line was literally out the door. Very limited indoor seating, but additional picnic table seating outside. Lots of folks get it to go. Very limited parking, but overflow available behind the place, off Peyton. Everything on the menu is good. Just be careful with the sweet tea, if can induce a diabetic coma where you stand. Seriously, hummingbirds could live off that stuff.

Give them a try; you won't be disappointed.

It's my favorite BBQ in Houston. Truthfully, the brisket is not the greatest, but everything else makes up for it.
You have to try the dirty rice, it's epic.
    Damn good cobblers too.

Ah, see... We're in different camps. Good dirty rice and cobbler makes them a good restaurant, not a good bbq place. :)

There's nothing wrong with that but a good BBQ place is about the meat.

    I didn't say they had sub-par meat.
I did say their brisket is not the greatest, but it's sure not the worst either.
When I said everything else makes up for it, I was including the amazing chicken, ribs, and sausage.
Matter of fact, it's some of the best BBQ chicken I've ever had.
