Let them strike. Let it last. Their demands are ridiculous. It will be much more painful for demo politicians than the rest of the country. With time they’ll come to their senses.
(I was in a union for one short job, but they were too political and too much BS for their arm twisting diatribe, focusing on supporting Democrats vs my fellow workers).

It's too bad the companies supplying parts will suffer. I worked in a union ILGW in the 70's, what I saw was the guys with longevity didn't really have to work. They were protected, probably the only thing to get you fired would be stealing or fighting.

Joe was going to send his labor secy and some other admin type to help negotiate between the UAW and auto companies but they were told to stay out of it and their help wasn't needed. Trump said he was going to Detroit to speak to the workers. Every opportunity for a political circus must be jumped on.

CNN's take on Trump going to Detroit...

The prez announced today he is now going to speak to the workers in a visit. After Trump said he was going. I think I know who will be received much better ....

I grew up in an area with a very dominant Union presence.
I remember an 8th grade teacher that told our class that those of us who chose not to go to college had better join a union or we would never get a good paying job.
I was so inspired that I actively avoided Unions my entire working career.
I turned down more than a few good paying jobs because I refused to join a union. I found other jobs that paid as well. I worked hard at those jobs and did quite well for myself. Better, in fact than many of my friends that gave in and got their union cards. And definitely better off that that liberal union loving teacher from 8th grade.

I hope this latest union action against auto makers ends up crushing hte unions, but I kind of doubt it.

Biden to walk the picket line, he says the workers should get some of the profits from the car companies. Isn't that communism? Would that dissuade companies from making profits? I'm not a union guy but I believe in making money without the government telling me how much I can make. Government is trying to control every aspect of our lives, I don't like it.

He is just trying to shore up his waning support from UAW workers. It is all about the votes.

Biden has always worked in government so he doesn't actually know how a business works.

The idea of unions was not a bad one but like everything else in life, eventually gave in to corruption. Anytime someone figures out how to line their pockets, the demise of the original intent is inevitable.
Unions were a necessary evil when they started. Unsafe working conditions, the "company store", etc was basic slavery. Now, the union management is just as, if not more evil than the business owners of years ago.

Being they are liberal biased, and the members are hooked on the "something for nothing" promises they are literally selling their bodies and lives for these promises. Meanwhile, union manangement sits back and enjoys the high life.

The original intent of the UNITED STATES was limited gov't.

I was a union member at one of my earlier jobs and I saw how they made sure that incompetent and lazy workers could not be fired. Hard work and perseverance was not rewarded as the incompetent ended up with the easy jobs but could not be fired and the hard workers worked harder.
On the other hand the CEO of Ford makes like $22 million a year and whatever other perks go with the job. It is really easy to argue for a "fair share" when the CEO is so highly paid.
The worst unions are government unions and they should be outlawed.

Ford's quarterly revenue hovers around $40 billion. I'm not sure what level of compensation is appropriate for being responsible for that sum of money, but I'd assume the board and shareholders find it acceptable or he would be fired.

I can't recall where I heard it but it was something like if you took Ford CEOs "high" pay and divided it amongst the workers in the UAW they'd see something like a $200 per year pay raise. Basically pennies difference in each weekly paycheck. Its really difficult to argue a 40% pay increase because 1 other worker in the company translates to about $4 a week to your collective union.

I hope all UAW workers lose their job.
